# Set up back in stock

Back in stock adds a **Notify me** button to sold-out products. Shoppers leave their email, and get an email when the product is back.

### Turn it on

Go to **Back in stock** and click **Turn on** (or **Enable back in stock** on the dashboard). The [app embed](/getting-started/activate-the-app-embed.md) must be on too.

Turning it off hides the button from your store. Your subscribers and settings are kept.

To change the widget, go to **Back in stock** → **Widget customization** → **Notify me widget**. The **Content** and **Appearance** tabs have a live preview; the rules below are the part to get right.

### Display rules

* **Products**: **All out of stock products** (default), **Specific products** (you can pick single variants), **Specific collections** or **Specific tags**.
* **Products also on preorder**: when a sold-out product is also in a preorder campaign, **Show only preorder** (default) or **Show Notify me and preorder buttons together**.
* **Show on**: product pages always; add **Featured product**, **Quick Add modal** or **Product card** if you want.

### Sign-up form

* **Display style**: **Inline button** (opens the form in a popup, default), **Float button**, or **Inline form** (the form sits right on the product page).
* **Form fields**: **Email** is always included. Add a **Phone number**, text, select, checkbox or radio fields if you need more from shoppers.
* **Allow customers to receive marketing emails** adds a consent checkbox. Shoppers who tick it are subscribed to your marketing emails in Shopify.

The Notify me button shows when the selected variant can't be bought. If the shopper switches to a variant that's in stock, it disappears. A shopper who signs up twice for the same variant sees *You have already subscribed to this product.*
